Introduction to Globe Valves

A globe valve is a type of linear motion valve used to regulate flow in a pipeline. Unlike gate valves, which are primarily for on/off control, globe valves are designed for precise throttling and flow regulation.

🛠️ How It Works

  • The valve consists of a movable disk (plug) and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body.

  • When the handwheel is turned, the stem moves the disk up or down.

  • Flow is controlled by the distance between the disk and the seat.

Key Features

  • Excellent Throttling: Ideal for regulating flow with high precision.

  • Shorter Stroke: Requires less movement to open/close compared to gate valves.

  • Good Shutoff Capability: Provides a tight seal when closed.

  • Directional Flow: Typically designed for flow in one direction (indicated by an arrow on the body).

Limitations

  • Higher Pressure Drop: Due to the tortuous flow path.

  • More Complex Design: More parts than gate or ball valves.

Not Ideal for Full Open/Close: Better suited for modulating flow.
