Introduction to Globe Valves
A globe valve is a type of linear motion valve used to regulate flow in a pipeline. Unlike gate valves, which are primarily for on/off control, globe valves are designed for precise throttling and flow regulation.
🛠️ How It Works
The valve consists of a movable disk (plug) and a stationary ring seat in a generally spherical body.
When the handwheel is turned, the stem moves the disk up or down.
Flow is controlled by the distance between the disk and the seat.
Key Features
Excellent Throttling: Ideal for regulating flow with high precision.
Shorter Stroke: Requires less movement to open/close compared to gate valves.
Good Shutoff Capability: Provides a tight seal when closed.
Directional Flow: Typically designed for flow in one direction (indicated by an arrow on the body).
Limitations
Higher Pressure Drop: Due to the tortuous flow path.
More Complex Design: More parts than gate or ball valves.
Not Ideal for Full Open/Close: Better suited for modulating flow.
